Work without distraction this summer

Working from home has many benefits. Escaping the commute, more time with your family, and peace and quiet to focus on your work. It all works perfectly; until the school holidays. If incorrectly managed it can feel like a juggling act, where you are compromising yourself, your children and your work.

So how can we make work work when our nearest and dearest need attention and an escape from boredom?

Spend time with the children
Set periods of work and periods for family, so both get your full attention at the right times. If your children have nap times or other quiet spells it's fine to organise your day around those. Don't forget to schedule in some dedicated downtime for yourself, too.

Signs for silence
If you need to make calls that require business-like silence, tie a scarf to the door handle and tell your children that they can't come into the room when the scarf is on the door. If this is doomed to failure, you can always do what a client of mine did once, and take a call from the car parked outside the house.

Work when you're working
Once you have your time chosen to start work, discipline yourself and focus. Don't be tempted to put a load of washing on or quickly do the vacuuming. If you were working in an office, you wouldn't do this.

Organise your time
Spread your time between the home office and a co-working space. A co-working space allows you to escape the chaos of home, but avoid the long tedious commute into the city. Co-working spaces are built with productivity in mind, meaning you can work smarter and spend more of your down time with the children. By splitting your time between home and “the office” you can maximise your experience and refresh your senses.

The perfect event space

The perfect event space

When choosing a venue to hold a party, networking event, drinks reception or workshop have you thought about a local gallery?

1. Beautiful Decor
Galleries make for a visually appealing venue with no decorations needed. Beautiful images fill the walls creating the perfect setting.

2. Break the ice.
The photography gives people a focal point, something to talk about, which is great for networking events. The space itself is set up for hosting.

3. The Space
Galleries have wide open spaces, with plenty of natural light to showcase the pieces to best effect. Most galleries keep the furnishings and the interiors behind the art itself neutral and minimalist, but also super stylish. This means plenty of mingling and circulating space for you and your guests.

4. Unique
Create an event everybody will remember in an impressive space.

We work in partnership with the Francesca Maffeo Gallery the perfect space for larger events.

Beautiful Bass

Voted number 1 on TripAdvisor, it's an understatement to say that the office were excited to try Cucina. We definitely were not disappointed!

The staff went out of their way to provide exceptional customer service. The dishes were perfectly timed, beautiful and generously portioned. Great value for money at £12.95 for two courses!

The quite music created a more intimate ambiance, setting it apart from the usual noise of a restaurant at lunch time. We can't wait to come back to experience the rest of the menu

#1 - Leigh on sea. The best kept secret...

#1 - Leigh on sea. The best kept secret...

I believe it to be Leigh Road... those people who live in and around Leigh know about it and of course love it.. but do those who come and visit our town? I don't believe the majority do. You would not be surprised if someone said they walked along got to a huge derelict hotel and thought that was where Leigh ended. In fact last summer whilst I was walking in old Leigh I overhead a couple saying 'is this is??' I couldn't help but get involved and explain to them that over the railway bridge and up the steps is another world! That couple would not have made it along to the Leigh Road I'm sure, they would have been like many of our visitors who stop at The Grand hotel.

So what can we do? Well signage would go a long way, not just directing people along the Broadway to Leigh Road but also from Old Leigh, directing the hundreds of visitors who go to the front and think that there is no more to Leigh than pubs and cockles.

Brighton is a good comparison, they have signs all over pointing to 'the lanes' so why can't we!?

I did make this suggestion to the council last year but have not heard anything.. I think maybe it's time to push harder..

Benefits of a serviced office in Leigh-on-sea

When it comes to organising office space for your business, it is not as easy as you think. Businesses change and need to be adaptable, so you need an office space that can change with the business, upscale or downscale as needed. Serviced offices offer that adaptability and help your space grow as your businesses does.

One all inclusive monthly bill

Having one bill that includes all of your utilities, internet, cleaning and furniture helps with budgeting as there will be no surprise charges.

There's no long term commitment!

You will be signing a contract that works around your business, you sign the contract for 12 months but have the option to continue if you wish. Most leases office leases ask for 5 years of commitment to the one space. But do you know where your company is going to be in 5 years time? A serviced office gives you the flexibility to grow.

Spend time on your business

Your business doesn't have to worry about arranging and managing supplies. Whether it's worrying about cleaning supplies, internet, water or business rates. We know how stressful and time consuming it can be dealing with issues that arise with your service providers, that is why a serviced office handles it all for you and takes the pressure off of your business.

Better internet

Leased line internet is the creme de la creme of internet. But most small businesses do not want the expense or hassle that comes with it's installation . EFM business broadband is generally the only option that a start up or small business can warrant buying. Some serviced offices offer leased line internet, which gives your business the dedicated high speed with a 4 hour fix. So, if something should go wrong you can be back up and running sooner than ever.

We currently have a 6 person office available in Leigh-on-Sea. Work in one of the UK's most inspiring towns.

It's all about the Fish Fingers

It's all about the Fish Fingers

Fish fingers in a sandwich?? Well let me tell you... The Squeeze cafe in Leigh-on-sea have managed to pull this off! 4 out of 6 of us decided to order this childish treat and there was silence as we tasted the first bite!

So the success of our first 'Come lunch with us' is mainly down to the perfect fish finger sandwich, but also of course the healthy baked sweet potato wedges, the fab service from staff and the company of my fellow co-workers. It is good to get out the office and enjoy the varied and inciting conversation ;-)

It is a great venue for a light casual lunch, a bit harder for larger groups as you can't book in advance, but we got there early enough to get seated without waiting.

So, now to plan our next lunch...

Why you should be thinking about your desk décor

Why you should be thinking about your desk décor

It’s obvious that office décor gives visitors a perception of your business and professional image. People therefore think that their office should be basic, clean, and modern. But by skipping out on individual personalisation you are stripping your business of any charisma. Your work environment gives visitors an impression, but so does the person within that work environment. You may now be asking what benefits does personal desk décor have on employees.

Studies have shown that when employees decorate their desks to represent their interests, it induces a “calming effect”. According to the study, this calming effect does a number of things that can enhance you or your company’s health and mood at work, including the following

Co-working Desk 1

Green Light!

One of the best ways to personalise your desk is by buying a plant. Having greenery around is good for your health, as they soak up pollutants and give off oxygen. Having a live plant on your desk increases productivity and cognitive attention. On a less measurable scale, studies have found that the presence of plants led to increased happiness amongst the office staff. Easy-to-maintain plants are the best option for an office environment. Some of the best plants for indoor use include Succulents, Pothos, Aloe, Spider Plants, English Ivy, Rubber Trees, Jade Plants, and Snake Plants.

Emotional Exhaustion

If you work at a desk with very little privacy you may find yourself with an increased level of emotional stress. This stress leads to emotional exhaustion making you feel burned out, it can also lead to physical exhaustion, both of which significantly decrease workplace productivity. By decorating your desk with personal items and adding your own style you make your space different and reduce emotional exhaustion.

Socialisation

By personalising your desk, you are showing off your personality – your likes and hobbies. These personal items help co-workers find a common interest amongst one another fostering conversations, increasing productivity and employee satisfaction subsequently leading to innovation and new ideas.

The space in which you work can have a huge impact on your work ethic and mood. For instance, a workspace enriched with foliage has many emotional and physical health benefits for staff which translate into productivity and benefits for employers. So, add a potted plant, a snazzy lamp or few pictures of loved ones to your desk and let’s start feeling positive and productive!
